Bandwidth Control

Manage bandwidth allocation with per-subscriber speed limits and data caps on MikroTik.

Overview

LALABill bandwidth control ensures fair internet access by enforcing per-subscriber speed limits and data caps through MikroTik queues and RADIUS attributes.

What problem does it solve?

Without bandwidth management, a few heavy users consume all available bandwidth, degrading the experience for everyone. Manual queue management on MikroTik does not scale.

How it works

Each package defines upload and download speed limits. When a subscriber connects (hotspot or PPPoE), LALABill ensures MikroTik applies the correct queue or RADIUS rate-limit. Data usage is tracked per subscriber in real time.

Requirements

  • MikroTik router connected to LALABill
  • Packages with speed limits defined

Step-by-step setup

  1. Define speed limits on packages

Set upload and download speeds on each package (e.g., 5 Mbps down, 2 Mbps up).

  2. Enable data caps (optional)

Set a data limit per package (e.g., 10 GB). Users are disconnected or throttled when the cap is reached.

  3. Monitor usage

View per-subscriber bandwidth consumption in real time from the Online Users page.

Benefits

Fair access

Every subscriber gets their allocated bandwidth without competing for resources.

Upsell opportunity

Offer premium speed tiers at higher prices to increase ARPU.

Automatic enforcement

Speed limits are applied automatically on the MikroTik. No manual queue management.

Frequently asked questions

For hotspot users, speed limits are set via MikroTik hotspot user profiles (simple queues). For PPPoE, limits are applied through RADIUS rate-limit attributes.
The user's session is terminated or throttled, depending on your configuration. They can purchase additional data or upgrade their package.
