Complete MikroTik hotspot setup guide

What you will need

Before starting, make sure you have:

• A MikroTik router running RouterOS 7.x or later
• Internet connectivity on the WAN port
• Terminal access (Winbox, SSH, or web terminal)
• A LALABill account (register at lalabill.com/signup)

Step 1: Configure your MikroTik

Start with a basic MikroTik configuration. Set up the WAN interface (DHCP client or static IP), bridge your LAN ports, and configure DHCP server for your local network.

Step 2: Enable hotspot

In Winbox, go to IP > Hotspot > Hotspot Setup. Run the wizard on your LAN interface. This creates the hotspot server, address pool, and basic firewall rules.

Step 3: Connect to LALABill

In your LALABill dashboard, go to NAS Devices and click Add Device. LALABill generates a unique onboarding script. Copy it and paste into your MikroTik terminal. The script configures a WireGuard VPN tunnel to LALABill.

Step 4: Create packages

In LALABill, navigate to Packages and create your internet plans. For a hotspot, typical packages include:

• 1 hour - basic browsing
• Daily pass - moderate speed
• Weekly pass - higher speed
• Monthly unlimited - full speed

Step 5: Generate vouchers

Go to Vouchers and generate batches for each package. You can print them using built-in layouts or distribute to agents.

Step 6: Deploy captive portal

Choose a professional captive portal theme from the gallery. Customize with your business logo and name. Click 'Set up captive portal' to deploy it to your MikroTik automatically.

Step 7: Test the setup

Connect a device to your WiFi. You should see the branded captive portal. Enter a voucher code and verify that internet access is granted with the correct speed limits.

Going live

Once testing is successful, you are ready to start selling. Print your voucher cards, set up agent distribution if needed, and start acquiring customers.
